Coillte provides a huge range of trails and sites for walking right across the country. These include multi-access trails at our forest parks, nature trails, hiking trails and challenging upland and mountain trails from a few hundred metres to many kilometres in length. Much of our forest lands are in Ireland's most beautiful locations and that makes Coillte forests a great place to walk and hike. To inform you where you are welcome to go walking, look out for our "Walkers Welcome" signs at forest entrances, so come on in when you see the sign!
Coillte promote Leave No Trace and welcome responsible visitors to more than a million acres of lands across Ireland.
Coillte have almost 180 walking trails throughout Ireland to suit walkers of all abilities. Trails are graded multi access, easy, moderate and strenuous. We also give the length, expected duration and whether the trail is linear or looped.
National Waymarked Ways
Ireland's long distance walking routes are known as the National Waymarked Ways (NWW's) and they are routes of up to 100kms or more, providing for overnight and multi-day treks across the country. Coillte provides more than half of all of the off-road sections of the NWW's and these take the walker across bogs and through forests, along rivers and lakes and into some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. All of the NWW's are listed on www.irishtrails.ie
