Near Lough Gill, Co. Sligo.

Site Description

This area around Lough Gill  formed part of the Wynne Estate. Hazelwood House was built in 1724 and is probably Sligo's finest 18TH century house. The house was designed by Richard Cassells who also designed Leinster House and Powerscourt House. The Wynne family planted most of the mature trees in this area which makes them approx 250years old. They planted many species which are not native to Ireland among them beech, hornbeam, lime, rhododendron and cherry laurel.
