Mountain Access Route

Trail description

The Mountain Access Route gives access to the remote area of Carrawaystick Mountain and Kelly's Lough. Form the car park, follow the road to the junction with the Wicklow Way and veer south along the way for approximately 300m. The trail veers right following an old bog road to enter an open turbary area of bog land. The trail now follows a trail constructed from recycled plastic "floating on the bog" and follows a forest ride line to emerge again on open land and onto the forest road. This road network allows access into Kelly's Lough or onto Carrwaystick Mountain. Way marking ends at the road.

Caution: THIS IS REMOTE COUNTRY AND SHOULD ONLY BE APPROACHED IF FULLY EQUIPPED WITH BOOTS, RAIN GEAR, MAP AND COMPASS, FOOD AND DRINK. DON'T TRAVEL HERE ALONE.
