Ciarán Shannon Walk
The Ciarán Shannon Walk is a looped trail that starts at the Church car park in Annacurra and follows a 2.4 km looped trail consisting of purpose built trail and forest roads that brings you back to the start at the car park.
The trail has one steady climb at the start up the old mass path, but there are a few benches along the way to have a rest as you go along, once at the top it is nearly all level or downhill from there. A newly constructed bridge leads over an old field boundary which has been preserved for its heritage value, this bridge leads you onto a boardwalk that leads through the old woodland and is helping to protect the sensitive nature of this area.>
The trail then goes downhill towards a part of the forest with conifers in it, once again there are benches to rest on or just sit and take in the sense of the forest, you are now well on the homeward stretch which leads along the forest road.
In some parts of the forest there are fenced in enclosures, this is to protect the newly planted and young trees from being eaten by deer.
