Knockanroe Woods Loop

Trail description

The trailhead and start point of this walk is at approx. 300m at the top of Step in the Silvermines.  Once past the metal barrier, follow the purple arrows along the forest road.  This first stage of the loop actually overlaps with the long-distance Slieve Felim Way, denoted with the familiar yellow arrows and walking man symbol.  After 200m, turn left at a crossroads, continue straight on till you meet a Y-junction where you veer right.   Continue on the forestry road for a distance of 1km, the terrain changes to a 'green' track as the loop enters trees. Continue to ascend through the forestry to exit at two wooden pillars. Turn right onto a sandy track.

After 200m along the sandy roadway you will be taking the last steep ascent from where there are spectacular views of the Silvermines area and Keeper Hill.  Once you have caught your breath, follow the purple arrows down where the loop veers right at two Y-junctions.  You are back in the forest and, and, after a short flat section, turn left to descend along a narrow walking track to reach descend some wooden steps.   At the bottom turn left and shortly afterwards turn right at the crossroads - from there it is only 200m back to the trailhead.
