Nature Trail

Trail description

This is a loop trail of 3 km with two shorter alternatives available. It starts in the car park and follows along  the lakeshore. Along the walk you can see various islands in Lough Gill among them Church Island, Goat Island and Cottage Island. Dooney Rock which lies on the southern shore of Lough Gill can also be seen
On this trail there is a rich variety of trees  you will encounter as you walk along both broadleaf  and  conifer. Broadleaf trees including our native trees such as oak, ash and holly can be seen together with beech and lime. Among the conifers on this trail are Scots pine and Norway spruce.   While this area is known as Hazelwood there is very little hazel to be seen.
