Pine Tree Trail
The Pine Trail is not, as is name implies confined to pine trees. A variety of trees are to be found including Spanish chestnut, redwoods, cedar and larch - the only conifer species that sheds its needles in the Autumn. The pine trees to be seen are Monterey and Scots pine.
Near the end of the trail there is an old wall clearly visible to your left. It was built sometime in the mid 18th century. It partially served the purpose of a retainer wall for an old road that ran along the top of the embankment. From here you have a short walk to the back of Avondale House, where on route you can have a detour to the left into Lovers Leap.
The route can be walked in either direction. Information leaflet on the trail stops available from Avondale House.
