Moanbaun wood nature trail was developed as a result of a joint undertaking by Watergrasshill Community Association and Coillte Teoranta. It was opened to the public in November 2000. The trail runs in a loop walk through coniferous and some broadleaf plantations for a distance of 3.5 km. There are 13 numbered stops along the way marked with brown timber bollards which are numbered. These stops show various aspects of forestry and nature in its natural environment. The trail walk is mostly level with a few small inclines and is suitable for all ages.
Seating is provided along the way at a number of points for anyone who feels like relaxing in this beautiful sylvan setting.
Longer forest walks can be enjoyed as there are a number of forest roads and tracks leading off the nature trail route.
The nature trail, forest roads and forest paths are used frequently by orienteering clubs throughout the year.
