Western Way (T'yard)
The trail enters the forest at the forest car park entrance and follows the forest road for approximately 1.5km before turning right, down to the bridge crossing at the Owenduff River. This first section provides the walker with great views over Tawnyard Lough and south west to Ben Gorm (700 m) and west to Mweelrea at 803 m, the highest mountain in Connacht.
The river provides a pleasant place to stop and have a brief rest before continuing along the forest road through pine (Lodgepole pine) forests and, eventually, on to the forest road that crosses a bog on its last stretch to Houstons Bridge. If you are not continuing further on the trail - retrace your steps to the car park.
